pre-training food is the bit nobody talks about enough
Right so I've been powerlifting for about six years now and the amount of time I wasted just... turning up and lifting without thinking about what I'd eaten beforehand is genuinely embarrassing to admit.
Not talking about supplements or anything fancy. Just actual food. Timing. How much. I used to think it didn't matter that much and then I'd wonder why my third working set felt like absolute death.
Took me probably two full years of inconsistent sessions to connect the dots. Now it's basically the first thing I plan around a heavy day — what I'm eating, when, how far out from the session. Everything else fits around that.
The difference in how a session feels when you've got it right vs. when you've winged it is not subtle. It's the difference between hitting your numbers and grinding through something that should've been comfortable.
I know it sounds obvious written out like that. But I genuinely don't see enough people talking about it in training spaces — everyone's obsessed with programming and nobody's mentioning they had nothing but a coffee three hours before pulling heavy.
