skipped my warmup once. never again.

Went straight into a tempo run last Tuesday. Cold morning, tight calves from the day before, just wanted to get it done. Pulled up at about 2k with this horrible tightness in my left hip flexor. Not injured-injured but that kind of warning pull where your body's basically going don't you dare. Had to walk back. The whole thing. I've been running fells for years and I know this. I know it. But there's always that morning where you're behind on time or it's freezing and you just think yeah I'll be fine. And then you're not fine. My warmup when I actually do it properly is nothing mad — maybe 8 minutes of slow jogging, some hip circles, leg swings, a bit of dynamic stuff for the ankles because the uneven ground up here absolutely destroys them if they're not ready. That's it. Genuinely that's all it takes. The difference in how the first kilometre feels is just... not comparable. Legs actually work. Breathing settles faster. I don't spend the first 10 minutes hating every step. Anyway. Hip's fine now. But I've got a long fell route planned for Sunday and I will be doing my 8 minutes like a sensible person.

cold calves on a fell start are no joke, your body really does just refuse

hip flexors in the cold are unforgiving

how long do you usually warm up before fell runs when you do it properly?
