skin doing its autumn thing again
Every single year I forget this happens. The heating comes on, the air goes dry, and my skin basically throws a tantrum within about two weeks. Tight around the jaw, a bit flaky on the forehead, the odd breakout from nowhere. I swear it's more disruptive than any summer heatwave.
The thing I've actually started doing — and this is based on what I know about skin barrier function from work, not just vibes — is switching my moisturiser before I feel like I need to. Not when it's already protesting. Ceramide-based ones are worth looking at if you're not already, they're genuinely solid for barrier repair, that's reasonably well-evidenced. I also bumped up my collagen peptides a few weeks back because there's decent (not conclusive, mind, but decent) data on them supporting dermal hydration going into drier months. The catechins from matcha on top — I do think they help with oxidative stress on the skin, though I'll be honest, that link is more promising than it is solid. I'm not claiming miracles, just that it works for me and it's not random.
Basically: don't wait until your skin's already a mess. A bit boring as advice goes but genuinely that's it.
